Chevy's versatile SUV-like truck returns for this year with several equipment
updates. The Avalanche is available in three basic configurations: 1500 2WD, 1500
4WD, and 2500 4WD. Trim levels include LS, LT, and Z66, with several option
packages also being offered. Powertrain options include a 295-hp 5.3L V-8 and an
8.1L V-8 producing 320 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, both fitted to a
four-speed automatic transmission. 2005 model year changes include a revised
interior trim, a new chrome exterior package on LS models, and two new exterior
metallic paint choices: Sandstone and Bermuda Blue. New standard equipment across
the board includes the OnStar safety and security system and steering
wheel-mounted radio controls. Models are available without the exterior body
hardware (charcoal plastic on the bottom half of vehicle sides and rear).
